The three high school football coaches spoke at the Covington Rotary Club Tuesday as the season opener Friday fast approaches. Alcovy, the reigning county champions, plays Eastside at 7:30 p.m. at Sharp Stadium while Newton plays its opener Saturday at 7 p.m. versus Shiloh.Each coach touched on the upcoming season and, in particular, the changes they’ll see in the regions. Information

Alcovy was chartered in 2006 and is the third high school in Newton County. The Tigers and Lady Tigers athletic teams play in Region 4-AAAA. Chris Haymore is the athletic director and David Easterday is principal. The Tigers football team plays all of its home games at Homer Sharp Stadium in downtown Covington. The Lady Tigers softball team captured the school's first region title in 2008.
